In August of 2003, Pearl, our then 5 month old yellow Labrador, stopped eating her food. Her doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with her physically and told us we needed to find a food she would eat. We tried a number of different commercial dog foods but nothing appealed to her taste. During that same time period we suspected there were health issues with General, our 3 month old Labrador/Golden Retriever mix. His muscle development was weak and we suspected arthritis or worse – cancer. General was later diagnosed with severe arthritis in both front elbows. Hippocrates once said “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food”. With those words of wisdom, I began researching pet health and nutrition. I soon realized the commercial pet food industry was short changing our pets when it came to providing them a well balanced diet. After researching a number of dog foods on the market, I decided the best way to conquer these problems was to make their own food. I started with a basic diet plan that was designed by Veterinarians with a true concern and knowledge about pet nutrition.

Providing our dogs with home cooked meals and a well balanced diet that we controlled had immediate and amazing results. Mealtime is met with Pearl literally barking for her supper and General runs like the wind.

We were so pleased with the results we decided to create nutritional and tasty treats for them. Pearl and General thought their biscuits were so delicious they decided to share some with their dog friends.

We believe all dogs enjoy variety in the foods they eat and that consumers want healthy choices. And so, we started Pearl’s Pet Food and Treats. We provide nutritious dog treats made from real foods and a choice for the dog owner.
